Top 4 reasons to give thanks this Thanksgiving with Worldwide Cancer Research

At Worldwide Cancer Research we have a lot to be thankful for. Not only are people generally living longer with cancer and having a better quality of life, there are also new research discoveries being developed every day around the world bringing us closer to our vision of making sure no life is cut short by cancer.

We are so grateful to everyone who supports Worldwide Cancer Research. We rely completely on public donations and when we consider the many different people and organisations involved with the charity, we realise there’s an awful lot to be thankful for this Thanksgiving and a lot of you to thank. So let us take this opportunity to say thank you for your dedication, hard work and support - without it the pioneering projects we fund simply would not happen.

  1. Researchers

Research is the only way we can make sure no life is cut short by cancer. And our researchers can only carry out that research because incredible people are fundraising and supporting us in many different ways.

Since 1979 the charity has invested over £183 million directly into cancer research and funded 1,817 projects for 1,120 researchers in 34 countries.

We are truly thankful to the world renowned specialists in the world’s best research institutions which we fund who work tirelessly day in day out. Research doesn’t happen in isolation. The answers will not come from one researcher, in one lab, in one country.

This worldwide research will enhance our understanding of cancer and help us find and develop better, more effective treatments. Treatments you, your family or your family’s family may rely on in the future.

  1. Scientific Advisory Committee

We are often asked not just how we go about selecting the most worthwhile projects to receive funding but also who exactly does the selecting. We receive over 600 grant applications from all over the world for promising research every year. So we leave the selecting process to the experts - our Scientific Advisory Committee.

Made up of eminent cancer specialists who give up their time voluntarily to meet and evaluate proposals, the breadth of knowledge and depth of experience of our committee members ensure that only research of the highest calibre is funded. It’s always about the quality of the research not its geography. If an application shows great promise then we will award it funding no matter where in the world it is being carried out. We, and many others, are indebted to the members of the committee for their time, expertise and enthusiasm.

  1. Staff

The staff at Worldwide Cancer Research work extremely hard and are very passionate about what they do. They are proud of their contribution to the fight against cancer. Some of the staff have been with the charity for nearly 20 years, and that shows dedication!

The charity is made up of different departments and each and every member of staff puts in a huge amount of effort to ensure the smooth running of the organisation. We are so thankful to Team Worldwide Cancer Research!

  1. Supporters

And finally, to our supporters – whether you cook up a storm for your work charity bake sale, jump out of a plane, run a marathon or trek the Sahara – whatever you do to raise money for us, thank you! Your donations fund unique and groundbreaking science which help develop better treatments for patients, now and in the future. But we still need your support - for more information on how you can help Worldwide Cancer Research, please visit here.

All that’s left to say is have a Happy Thanksgiving!
