The cures could be in the jeans
Running a successful business yourself is extremely tough – but when two passions come together – fashion and supporting the search for the cures to cancer – it becomes so much more than a job - it’s family, friends, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren – it’s working hard now for a better future.
Kyla O’Donnell knows this all too well. She is the Founder of Kevin Denim, a UK-based luxury jeans company which was set up in 2017 with the mission to not only provide a high quality product to make people feel and look great, but also to donate 50% of the profits to Worldwide Cancer Research.
The reason? Her beloved father, Kevin O’Donnell.
In 1984, her physically fit and healthy father was diagnosed with a brain tumour. He had several courses of chemotherapy and multiple surgeries but after fighting courageously for two years he sadly passed away in 1986 aged just 36. Kyla was 13.
Then, in 2015, Kyla had her own cancer scare after finding a lump in one of her breasts. Given the family history she went to see a specialist. Thankfully, Kyla was lucky and the results were clear but she knew she had to do something in memory of her father and the millions of people around the world whose lives are turned upside down by cancer every day.
The experience inspired Kyla to create Kevin Denim as a tribute to her father who loved fashion, particularly jeans which he would wear every day.
"I remember him buying my first pair of jeans when I was 10. It meant a lot. 30 years on from Dad passing, this is my way of helping do something to support cancer research, now and in the future.
"If my father had survived he would have gone on to raise money for cancer research, and because he never got the chance to do that I am doing this on his behalf and dedicating it to his memory."
As well as the incredible support the Kevin Denim company provides Worldwide Cancer Research, Kyla has also set up a Lasting Tribute in memory of Kevin – her own unique way to help fund the search for the answers to cancer in her father’s name.
This month Kevin Denim celebrates its six month anniversary and in that short space of time the organisation has gone from strength to strength with just this week the first pair of jeans heading for the US. We can’t thank Kyla enough for everything she has done to support the charity, and to the many customers donating through sales of their jeans. Please visit www.kevindenim.com to learn more.
Lasting Tribute is a special online space where you, your family and friends can remember and celebrate a loved one by sharing photos, videos, stories and messages all whilst supporting lifesaving cancer research that could allow people affected by cancer more time with their families. That’s exactly what Kyla did to remember her father, Kevin. If you would like to find out more information on giving in memory to Worldwide Cancer Research, please click here.
