Worldwide Cancer Research Menu

We need your help

Even in 2018 millions of lives every day are turned upside down by a cancer diagnosis. Cancer affects almost everyone at some stage in their lives. Whether they’re one of the estimated 1 in 2 people worldwide diagnosed with some form of the disease during their lifetime, or one of those forced to watch a much-loved friend or family member fight it.

However, there is hope. Worldwide Cancer Research funds pioneering research projects in labs around the world, working tirelessly to find better ways to diagnose and treat the disease and to realise our vision of ‘no life cut short by cancer’.

This World Cancer Day, Sunday 4th February, you can show your support for the vital work we continue to fund by turning some small part of your own life upside down.

Our campaign’s 4 key messages are:

  • Every day, millions of lives are turned upside down by cancer.
  • Sunday 4th of February is World Cancer Day.
  • You can mark the day and show your support for Worldwide Cancer Research and the vital work we help to fund by turning your tweets, profile pics, websites, front pages or signage upside down for the day.
  • Text "UPSIDEDOWN” to 70004 to give £5

How you can get involved:

1. Post an #UpsideDownSelfie.
One of the easiest ways to get involved is to take a selfie, turn it upside down, and post it on your social media channels. Remember to include the hashtag #UpsideDownSelfie so that we can see the pictures as they come in.
2. Social Media Profiles and Header: Turn your profile pic upside down and post a message of support.
It's simple to turn your profile picture and header upside down.
  • On a Mac > Open image in preview > Go to ‘Tools’ > Click ‘Flip Horizontal’ > Save
  • On a PC > Open image > Rotate 180 ̊> Save

Then simply upload as your new profile pic on one or all of your social channels and post this message (or one of your own) alongside the downloadable image below.

‘Every day millions of lives are turned upside down by cancer. This World Cancer Day I’m showing my support to Worldwide Cancer Research and the vital work they help to fund. #LivesTurnedUpsideDown’

3. Posting an upside down social post.

To save you time, here is an upside down message of support:

4. Take part in the Thunderclap campaign.

Thunderclap is a great way for a small charity like ours to amplify our message and its reach. Visit our Thunderclap page, pledge your support and on World Cancer Day your Tweet or Facebook post will automatically be shared at exactly the same time as thousands of other supporters’. There’s strength in numbers and together we can make a difference.

5. Turning your signage upside down or anything else you can think of (feel free to get creative with this).

Maybe you’ve got a blackboard menu, an information board or some shopfront signage that can be easily flipped over for the day and displayed alongside some of the ‘upside down’ materials we provide?

Or perhaps you can display one of our upside down posters in your office, shop window or in any public areas you might have.
