International Women’s Day 2015
Going with this year’s Make it Happen theme for International Women’s Day we asked Dr Khuloud Al-Jamal, researcher in nanomedicine at King’s College London, what she thinks aspiring female researchers can do to make it in science.
“For a woman in science it can be challenging, I think especially if you are young as well, sometimes you might have to work harder to prove yourself. But I like to take it positively. Once you show your skills and your competence- the good science that you do, it speaks for itself.”
“I’d say to any young aspiring researchers, whether you’re female or not, I think it’s up to you to decide how you want to be treated. Believe in yourself and work hard. Don’t listen too much to negative advice! Try to take any barrier you come across positively, it just means you can jump higher next time.”
