Siemens chose Worldwide Cancer Research as one of three charities to be supported in their Big Summer Cycle – a cycling race of epic proportions spanning 15 days, 15 Siemens sites and 1500 miles.
From ‘beat the cyclists’ - a static biking challenge - to silent auctions, sweepstakes and sponsored runs, employees came together across Siemens globally to raise over £80,000 for cancer research, juvenile diabetes and Alzheimer’s disease. Employees also collectively cycled more than double the distance taken to circumnavigate the globe with each kilometre generating vital funds in sponsorship from Siemens sites in Europe, Singapore and the US.
“As we climbed both these mountains, I had to keep telling myself that whatever the pain was going through my body and the desire in my head to give up, we had to continue. People going through battles with cancer, T1 diabetes or Alzheimer’s or supporting family members doing so, have far greater, harder and longer battles.”
