There’s nothing quite like running a marathon – it’s just magic!

16th June 2022

We are grateful to each and every one of our Curestarters who decide to fundraise on our behalf. Your support means we can fund some of the world’s greatest scientists and start new cures that will one day end cancer.

Meet Jude, one of our Curestarters taking part in the 2022 London Marathon:

I think that running was my saving grace in lockdown, like exercise was for many people. At the very start of my running journey back in 2009, I couldn't run the length of my street but decided I would follow a 16-week program for my first 5km race, and have since fallen in love with it.

There's such a buzz at a marathon. You're surrounded by a bunch of people all supporting each other - it's incredible. The whole ethos of running is to keep going and put one step in front of the other, just like the research process.

Cancer has affected my family and friends - there have been some very sad stories but also some wonderful stories of people beating the disease. So raising money for cancer research has always been important to me and I'm so glad I've taken the time to discover Worldwide Cancer Research’s mission to end cancer by starting cures.

I’m looking forward to the big day, so much so that I’ve deliberately chosen bright pink running shoes to go alongside my yellow and pink WCR running top so everyone can spot me!

There are so many ways to raise funds and support the vital work that we do. Thanks to people like Jude and others, whatever you choose to do to support us, your efforts will help save the lives of generations to come.
