We’re taking steps to start cures, literally

22nd September 2022

After both losing people close to them to cancer throughout their lives, Lynne and Tim decided to take on an epic 100km hike to raise much-needed funds.

In July this year, Lynne and her partner Tim took part in the Race to Stones hike in Wessex which saw them complete a 100km hike across two days.

Tim and I love hiking together. So much so, that in 2019 our love of hiking took us to Spain to complete part of the Camino Way, a pilgrim’s route to Santiago de Campostela.

Having successfully completed our first long-distance hike gave us the idea that we should push ourselves further and raise some cash for a worthwhile cause in the process.

We signed up for the epic Race to the Stones – a hike that would see us walking in the footsteps of Romans, Vikings, and mythical warriors, by following the oldest path in Britain, and maybe the longest as the hike is 100km!

Deciding to challenge ourselves with this grueling event to raise money was simple as both Tim and I have personal connections to cancer. My long-term partner, prior to Tim, passed away from prostate cancer, and Tim witnessed family members being taken away too early from this cruel disease, including his mum who passed away from breast cancer when Tim was only 19 years old.

In the end, we raised more than £8,000 to help fund new cancer cures!
