Want to help Worldwide Cancer Research kick-start new cancer cures this year, but not quite sure how to start fundraising? Well, look no further, as today we’re sharing five athletic options for raising money that are sure to help get you started - or even spark an idea of your own.

Plus, if you make Worldwide Cancer Research your chosen cause, you’ll instantly gain access to our super fundraising team who’ll support you from start to finish on your venture - whatever it may be!

We believe that bold research will cure cancer and that the first step is the most important one. Whether your first step is bold, sporty or glamorous, every penny you raise will help us save lives – now and in the future.

So, here are our five favourite ways to fundraise with your trainers on – what are yours?

Run a full or half marathon

From the buzzing atmosphere and the roaring support to the city streets and sometimes coastal views – marathons are an experience to remember.

By taking part in a marathon for Worldwide Cancer Research, you instantly gain access to professional training plans, an online network of fellow runners, our incredibly supportive events team and your very own bright and bold branded running vest or technical t-shirt.

Also, if you choose to pound the pavements in London, Brighton, Newcastle, Hackney, Manchester or our home city of Edinburgh, then you’re guaranteed to be a part of a fantastic team and maybe even have Team Worldwide staff cheering for you at the finish line.

Set yourself a walking challenge

At Worldwide HQ, our team of avid walkers helped spark this idea! Why not take the first step to kick-start cancer cures across the world by setting yourself a walking challenge – whether it’s 10,000 steps a day or a destination to destination challenge.

Put your best foot forward and set yourself a goal you know your friends and family will get behind and sponsor you for. You could also use our favourite tracking app Strava, where you can track your walks and share them with your friends and family on social media to build up those valuable donations.

Get involved in a Cyclathon

Why not rally your friends, family or gym buddies to do a Cyclathon? Whether you’re on an actual bike or a static one in your gym or at home – the opportunities are endless.

The rules are to go either by distance or time, e.g. cover the equivalent of Edinburgh to Inverness, or simply aim to keep going for 24 hours straight. With a team by your side, people can jump on and off as they please as long as the pedals keep moving!

Sign up for a Kiltwalk

Don your tartan and take part in one of the most fun charity events for Worldwide Cancer Research in four of Scotland’s biggest cities. With 13,000 walkers and over 700 charities being represented, there’s no other event series like it in the UK.

Every penny you raise PLUS an extra 50% also goes straight to us – your chosen charity – thanks to Sir Tom Hunter and The Hunter Foundation. With three distances to choose from, the choice is yours on whether you want to Stride, Walk or Wander.

Host a tournament with your sports team

No matter which sport you play, it’s a given that your teams’ supporters, community, mums, dads, brothers and sisters alike would love to have the chance to play with and against you. You could charge an entry fee and even sell some homemade goods to top up your total!

To help you put your fundraising plans into actions, we have made some free, handy resources for you to download or print, including an editable poster and sponsorship form. Check them out here.
