Six lockdown-friendly fundraising ideas

Since March, when lockdown began and 'the new normal' set in, much of our fundraising has stopped and our lifesaving research is at risk. But you can still make a difference and help us continue to start new cancer cures around the world. To get you started, we’ve put together six fun, lockdown-friendly ways to fundraise while staying at home – they might even spark an idea of your own!

Challenge yourself, and we'll challenge cancer. Set up a fundraising page today!

1. Donate your birthday

One of our incredible supporters made a generous donation described as the ‘birthday fund’ and we thought it was a lovely idea. If you’re having a birthday in isolation, perhaps you too could set up a Facebook Birthday Fundraiser, or donate the money you might have spent on going out to celebrate.

2. Give while you shop

Worldwide Cancer Research is listed on a number of giving platforms - which means you can donate automatically while you buy or sell goods online. You can support bold research while you shop on eBay Giving, Amazon Smile, The Giving Machine and Give As You Live. Find out more here.

3. Give it up

What’s the one thing you couldn’t live without? Would your friends and family sponsor you to give it up for a week, a month or even longer? Share daily updates with your supporters to let them know how well you’re doing and watch the pennies pile up.

4. Swear jar

Why not have some fun with whoever you’re isolating with and have a swear jar – with a twist? You could change the word every week to keep your housemates, family or partner on their toes. For example: ‘dinner’, ‘glasses’, or even ‘coronavirus’! You’ll never ask your kids to get your glasses again!

5. Sponsored silence

Are you self-isolating with your family, or have you got video-call-fatigue? This might be a good way to give yourself some peace and quiet! It’ll be tough but well worth it once the donations start rolling in.

6. Set yourself a fitness challenge

Whether it’s endless keepie-uppies in the back garden or scaling your stairs 7,000 times to complete the distance of a bucket-list mountain – people love to sponsor those striving to put their fitness to the test for charity.

Have you got a fantastic idea of your own for fundraising at home? We'd love to hear from you!
