Judy Murray's five ways to raise money for charity

By choosing to raise money for charity, you could change the course of cancer research - supporting Worldwide Cancer Research’s pioneering scientists as they work to identify new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer. Whether it’s your first time or you’re a regular fundraiser, it can be difficult to know where to start. Curestarter Coach Judy Murray is here to give you a little inspiration for ways to raise money for charity.

Five ways to raise money for charity:

Get your trainers on

Sport is always top of my agenda when it comes to fundraising, and signing up to a sporting event is a great way to get moving and raise crucial donations at the same time.

Have a look at upcoming sporting events in your area, and whether it’s a marathon, a cycle, or a sponsored tennis tournament, rally your friends as training partners and get involved for a good cause.

Unleash your inner Mary Berry

Hosting a coffee morning or bake sale at school or work, or even at home amongst your closest friends and family, is a surefire way to have fun in the process of supporting cutting-edge cancer research, and enjoying those freshly baked tasty treats is just a bonus.

You could make anything from chocolate crispy cakes to a three-tiered red velvet sponge, depending on how ambitious you feel!

Fuel your inner adrenaline junkie

If you’ve always wanted to skydive, abseil or bungee jump, what better motivation to do it than to do so for an important cause. You can tick something off your bucket list, impress your friends, and raise money for charity all in one… if you’re feeling daring!

Time to have a clear-out

Clearing out old clothes or belongings is something we all need to do from time to time. With pre-loved clothing sites and apps becoming more and more popular, it's a great way to raise some extra funds for a charitable cause. Or, if apps aren’t your thing, local car boot sales are another great option. Not only will you be making some cash for charity, but you’ll end up with extra wardrobe space too.

Keep it sociable

What could be better than socialising with friends while raising money for charity? A pamper day, quiz night or coffee morning are great ways to spend time with your friends and fundraise in a relaxed and sociable setting. Get your friends together and encourage them to donate the money they would usually spend on a night out towards life-changing cancer research - and catch up while doing so!

We are so grateful to all of our incredible Curestarters who fundraise tirelessly to support ground-breaking research. By starting new cures we will reach a day when no life is cut short by cancer. Will you join our united effort today?
