What type of gift should I leave?
Thank you so much for considering leaving a gift in your Will. It is of course totally up to you what sort of gift to leave. The three main types are:
- Percentage share – known as a ‘residuary’ gift, as it is a percentage of the ‘residue’ of your estate once other gifts have been made. This type of gift is the most valuable because it’s inflation-proof, and even a small percentage can make a bid impact.
- Lump sum – known as a ‘pecuniary’ gift – is a fixed amount of money. This can potentially lose its value over time as costs increase.
- Specific gift - a particular item, such as a car, jewellery or property.
There are other ways of leaving a gift. We recommend you speak to your solicitor about the any alternatives.
