4 ways to get active and raise money for charity at the same time

Were you always a medal winner at your school Sports Day? Do you have more energy than the Duracell Bunny? Most importantly, do you want to raise crucial funds to start new cancer cures around the world? Check out four fun options for dusting off your trainers and becoming a Curestarter at the same time.

Want to help Worldwide Cancer Research start new cancer cures this year, but not quite sure how to start fundraising?

Well, look no further, as today we’re sharing four athletic options for raising money that are sure to help you on your way - and might even spark an idea of your own.

And if you make Worldwide Cancer Research your chosen cause, you’ll instantly gain access to our super fundraising team who’ll support you from start to finish on your venture - whatever it may be - result!

Here are our four favourite ways to fundraise with your trainers on – what are yours?

Host a tournament with your sports team

No matter which sport you play, it’s a given that your teams’ supporters, community, mums, dads, brothers and sisters alike would love to have the chance to play with and against you. You could charge an entry fee and even sell some homemade goods to top up your total!

Run a full or half marathon

From the buzzing atmosphere and the roaring support to the city streets and sometimes coastal views – marathons are an experience to remember.

By taking part in a marathon for Worldwide Cancer Research, you instantly gain access to professional training plans, an online network of fellow runners, our incredibly supportive events team and your very own bright and bold branded running vest or technical t-shirt.

Also, if you choose to pound the pavements in London, Brighton, Newcastle, Hackney, Manchester or our home city of Edinburgh, then you’re guaranteed to be a part of a fantastic team and maybe even have Team Worldwide staff cheering for you at the finish line.

Set yourself a walking challenge

At Worldwide HQ, our team of avid walkers helped spark this idea! Why not start cancer cures around the world by setting yourself a walking challenge – whether it’s 10,000 steps a day or a destination to destination challenge.

Put your best foot forward and set yourself a goal you know your friends and family will get behind and sponsor you for. You could also use our favourite tracking app Strava, where you can track your walks and share them with your friends and family on social media to build up those valuable donations.

Get involved in a Cyclathon

Why not rally your friends, family or gym buddies to do a Cyclathon? Whether you’re on an actual bike or a static one in your gym or at home – the opportunities are endless.

The rules are to go either by distance or time, e.g. cover the equivalent of Edinburgh to Inverness, or simply aim to keep going for 24 hours straight. With a team by your side, people can jump on and off as they please as long as the pedals keep moving!

We are so grateful to all of our incredible Curestarters who fundraise tirelessly to support ground-breaking research. By starting new cures we will reach a day when no life is cut short by cancer. Will you join our united effort today?
